Embarking on the Journey

Embarking on the Journey

Welcome to the inaugural post of my blog, The Bold Engineer!

Why “The Bold Engineer,” you might ask?

Because there are many kinds of engineers: mechanical engineers, chemical engineers, electrical, industrial, civil, computer, audio, aerospace, naval…the list goes on and on. The number of different areas in which engineers exist is huge. And these engineers are many things: creative, curious, analytical, problem solvers, hard workers, team players.

But what I’ve learned is that for any engineer to be good at what they do, they have to go beyond these professional “soft skills”. Being an engineer requires bravery. It requires confidence. It requires resilience. It requires the willingness to aim high and sometimes fail hard. It requires assertiveness. It requires patience. It requires balance. It requires constant practice in life skills that we sometimes let get rusty, or always struggled with, or never really knew we needed. It requires us to be bold in everything we do.

When it comes down to it, engineers are some of the most bold people you will ever meet. You have to be bold to want to make a living out of tackling problems that most people would consider completely impossible.

A year-and-a-half ago, I embarked on a journey that made me think about the kind of engineer I wanted to be and how I needed to get there. It has been enlightening, challenging, sometimes stressful, sometimes a blast, and always an adventure. And the journey is really only just beginning.

The further I go, the more challenges and questions I will face. I am far from an expert in how to answer them…but I like doing research, learning about things, asking questions and finding answers. So with all that in mind, I hope that this blog will be a place where I can share what challenges I’m facing, what I learn, or maybe just open the discussion. We are never alone on the paths we take, and  if even one person can something helpful or inspiring from what I’ve learned, that is all I can hope for!

I can’t wait to embark on this boldness journey with all of you!
